We work in advertising. We don't make sausages. We make ideas. Sometimes big fat juicy ones. Some more chipolata size. But ideas nonetheless. And ideas come from people. An agency is nothing without its people. Yes, new business is important. And great work and happy clients. And to some, awards are too. But, in my experience, all these things are a natural consequence of employing great people. Employ the best you can afford. And look after your people. Not just seniors. Juniors too. Ask them how they're doing. Ask them the tough questions, what you as a manager are doing well, what they hope for, what they'd like to see you do better. Not when they're exiting the building. But when they're in the building, and in a mindset to stay. We work in advertising. It's not a sausage factory. It's a people business. That's all.
